Call For Conference Abstracts
On behalf of the Special Education Principals’ and Leaders’ Association (SEPLA), it is our pleasure to invite you to participate in the 2018 SEPLA Special Education Conference – SEPLA-CON 18.
The Conference will be held at the Holiday Inn Conference Centre, Warwick Farm, New South Wales on Monday 23rd and Tuesday 24th July, 2018. Our theme for SEPLA-CON 18 is: “The Greatest Show on Earth”We invite you to come and share what works with students with additional learning needs. Cut away your safety net and share with your colleagues what it’s like to push the boundaries. We dare you to show others the ways that you are redefining the world of special education! Share with your colleagues your techniques and skills! Share your juggling skills, amaze your colleagues with your lion taming, be the ringmaster of your own three-ring circus! This is an opportunity to tell your story of being a leader in your classroom. Share your experiences about innovating and extending learning opportunities for your students. Share how equitable access to resources is supporting learning.
The SEPLA Conference Organising Committee has again decided to host the teachers’ day on Monday 23rd July – the Term 3 School Development Day. This allows schools to send their mainstream teachers, special education teachers, SLSOs and leaders at minimal cost. Tuesday 24th July will focus on the professional learning of school leaders and administrators at all career levels in special education.
We hope to create a program that will provide fantastic professional learning, the opportunity to collaborate with a host of special educators and the space to enjoy great collegial company. We hope that you choose to submit an abstract that will contribute to a wonderful Conference Program.Conference Streams

School Stories
|
This strand provides an opportunity for teachers to share the great work they do in supporting students with special education needs. This strand is very broad and can include innovative practices, research based practices, evaluation processes, project work.

Neuroscience and Teaching
|
When educators take neuroscience into account, they organize a curriculum around real experiences and integrated, “whole” ideas. They focus on instruction that promotes complex thinking and the “growth” of the brain. This strand provides the opportunity for presenters to share curriculum development taking neuroscience into account.

Trauma Informed Practice
|
This strand will examine the Increased recognition of the role of trauma, and the development of strategies and programs to help children feel safe and learn.

|
Behaviour Support
|
This strand covers the strategies used in the classroom to increase positive behaviour, decrease problem behaviours and increase the quality of life by teaching new skills and making changes in a student’s environment. It may include positive, collaborative partnerships with other professions. Topics of staff and students’ mental health and behaviour.
